Cirebon, W Java (ANTARA News) - The government has set itself the target of helping some five thousand fishermen to switch to gas this year, an official said.

"The number of fishermen, who will receive gas conversion kits nationwide this year, will reach five thousand," the Director General of Oil and Gas of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry I Gusti Nyoman (IGN) Wiratmaja Puja said while handing over 229 gas conversion kits to fishermen in Losari, Cirebon, West Java, on Saturday.

To achieve the target, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will cooperate with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry.

He said the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry will continue to provide gas conversion kits to small fishermen, who have vessels of less than 5 gross tons across the country.

The ministry plans to distribute gas conversion kits to five thousand fishermen this year, "The kits will be distributed among fishermen in 10 municipalities and districts in Java and Bali," he said.
