Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The death toll of flooding that hit Garut District, West Java, last Tuesday evening has reached 27, while 22 others are still missing.

"By Friday at 10:30 a.m. local time, the Search and Rescue (SAR) team found one more dead victim, raising the death toll to 27, and 22 others are still being sought," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, said in a statement here, Friday.

The search efforts were focused on the Paris area of Sukakarya Village, Cimacan, Pamingi, and Sukamantri.

The SAR team comprises some 1,600 people including military and police officers as well as volunteers.

The rescuers have expanded the search area to cover the Cimanuk River basin area, Jati Gede dam, and Bojong Larang.

One HR-3601 helicopter belonging to the National SAR Agency and three heavy equipment units have been deployed to support the search and rescue effort.(*)
