Indonesia won the most votes from among the 10 countries in Group IV of South Asia and Oceania. These countries were Japan, China, Malaysia, Australia, South Korea, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Iran and Pakistan.
The chairman of Indonesias delegation, Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, said Indonesias re-election was evidence of the confidence that the international community reposed in the country and the role it played in the development of global postal services.
Furthermore, Basuki underlined that Indonesias membership in the Council of Administration could boost connectivity through the postal service.
In addition, Indonesia would be able to determine the direction and come up with strategic plans for the development of global postal services in the future.
"The sector has assumed importance, especially as it makes a transition towards an integrated postal service that keeps pace with the development of information and communication technology," he stressed.
In addition, he noted, Indonesias membership could spur a move towards ushering in reforms in the organization.
The 26th UPU Congress was held from September 20 to October 7, 2016.
