Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia, Hilmar Farid, explained the purpose of the implementation of the framework of the international forum. "WCF 2016 is a part of master plan as stated in Bali Promise. This forum is designed to carry forward the implementation of the grand idea that was emerged in WCF 2013," said Farid.
Six symposiums will be organized within the WCF 2016, bringing most urgent issues to be discussed: Reviving Culture for Rural Sustainability; Water for Life: Reconciling Socio-Economic Growth and Environmental Ethics; Interweaving History, Urban Space, and Cultural Movement; Culture in the New Digital World; Reconciling State, Community, and Cultural Divides; and Cultural Diversity for Responsible Development.
Over 1500 participants from around the world will flock up in Bali to experience and learn how the culture can shape the world and make it a better place to live. In addition, WCF 2016 also features a number of side events dedicated to the youth, such as International Youth Forum (IYF) and International Folk Dance Festival (IFDF).
Hilmar added that this forum will play an instrumental role not only in conserving and safeguarding the culture from extinction, but also in bringing the peace all over the world. "There is no time better than now for us to come together to escalate the role of culture in the national development," he stated.
Minister of Education and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, also stated that culture could be the “driver†and “enabler†of sustainable development. "We have to be able to conduct the cultural partnership in all aspects of our lives," Minister said. “The culture is an important asset that a nation has, so that the forum is expected to be able to bring the culture to higher level in contributing to the sustainable development,†concluded the Minister.
