"We are deeply saddened at the turn of events and are concerned about the victims of the bombing incident yesterday. Once again, we stand warned that incidents triggered by radicalism and terrorism are still happening around us repeatedly," he stated at the Vice Presidents office in Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.
He urged the military and police force personnel to accord priority to fighting radicalism and terrorism.
"The measures put in place by the government, aside from pushing for efforts to disseminate education and awareness, include sound security approaches and law enforcement," he added.
Among the victims of the explosion in Oikumene church, Loka Janan Ilir region, Samarinda, East Samarinda was a toddler who succumbed to severe burn injuries.
The incident left five people injured, four of whom suffered serious burns and were being treated in the IA Moeis General Hospital.
Intan Olivia Marbun, all of two and a half years of age, passed away after falling victim to the explosion.
"She died after suffering 78 percent burn injuries," AW Sjahranie hospital Director Rahim Dinata Majidi informed.
Another victim, three-year-old Triniti Hutahaya, was being treated in the intensive care section.
"Triniti has suffered 50 percent burns besides lung inflammation due to excessive smoke inhalation. Such a patient remains critical for 10 to 12 days. We will continue to make serious efforts to help the victim fight through this critical period," Majidi assured.
Two other toddlers, Aurelius Tristan Sinaga and Anita Kristabel Sihotang, also fell victims to the incident. Both were being treated for their injuries.
The alleged perpetrator was caught by the crowd when he attempted to escape by wading through the Mahakam river.(*)
