"(They have been) lawfully and convincingly proven guilty of committing corruption together," chief of the courts panel of judges, Bambang Pramudwiyanto, said here on Thursday.
The two were identified as Janner Purba, former chief of the Kepahiang district court, and Toton, former judge of the Bengkulu anti-corruption court.
Bambang noted that the two former judges were found guilty of taking bribes from Edi Santoni and Safri, who were accused of embezzling honorarium at the M Yunus Regional General Hospital in Bengkulu.
The prosecutors had demanded that the two be sentenced to 10 years in jail each.
The other suspect, Badaruddin Bahsin, a former substitute clerk, was sentenced to four years in jail and fined Rp400 million, or face another four months in prison, for his part as a middleman in the case.
Both Edi Santoni and Safri were sentenced to 4.3 years in jail each and fined Rp300 million, or spend an extra three months in jail. The public prosecutor had earlier demanded that they be sentenced to five years each and fined Rp300 million, or face another three months in jail.
Jannes and Toton were caught red handed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) while receiving bribes from two suspects at the hospital. (*)
