Indonesian media fights hoaxes consistently: Press Council

"No matter whether you are a bureaucrat, politician, professional, or even a housewife, fake news attacks everyone. We should fight against it efficiently," Press Council Chief Yosef Adi Prasetyo said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian press consistently fights fake news or hoax circulated by irresponsible individuals, because hoaxes create uneasiness in people.

Indonesian Press Council Chief Yosef Adi Prasetyo stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the campaign against hoax in Indonesia is not only the responsibility of the reporters or media practitioner but also the people, through their involvement in public information.

" No matter whether you are a bureaucrat, politician, professional, or even a housewife, fake news attacks everyone. We should fight against it efficiently," Yosef noted.

Fake news or hoax is not just seen in Indonesia but also in other countries such as European countries and United States.

The Press Council hopes the official media would not publish fake news through their reporters, which spreads through social media as their main sources, because of their questionable nature.

Secretary Honorary Council of Journalist Association of Indonesia (PWI) Wina Armada remarked that the media opens a very wide space for anyone to spread information.

"Right now, there are shifting social values. There is someone brave enough to judge the president wrong, attack governors, and government," Wina revealed.

The information spreads fast, and it is difficult to understand whether it was from press or not.(*)
