The presidents instruction was issued following a meeting with educational activists at the State Palace, here, Tuesday.
Several of the activists complained that book delivery to regions was very costly.
Jokowi spoke to the management of PT Pos, who later agreed to start the free delivery services of books next month.
He lauded educational activists who have spent time and energy to educate children in remote areas that are difficult to access.
Jokowi hoped that every region with mobile library will have at least 10 thousand books to encourage children to read so that they could improve their knowledge.
Jokowi held a gathering to celebrate the National Education Day that falls on May 2 with 39 educational activities, whose efforts to improve the public literary have been considered inspirational.
Meanwhile, the Education and Culture Ministry is preparing to reform the national education system at both the conceptual and managerial levels.
"We are preparing to reform the national education (system) both at the conceptual and managerial levels," Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy stated during the commemoration of National Education Day here on Tuesday.
He emphasized that character building begins and becomes a priority in elementary education. Thereafter, the environment at the higher education level should be conducive for learners to fully realize their potential.
"(Character building) allows students to equip themselves with high competitive skills that the world needs in the 21st century," he noted.
Effendy, who was also a former rector of the Muhammadiyah University of Malang, noted that todays learners, with their strong character and high competitive abilities, will be able to transform Indonesia into a developed nation similar to other advanced countries in the future.
"Thus, Indonesias position among other countries will become more dignified, sovereign, and beneficial," he emphasized.(*)
