"I have not received a report from the deputy attorney general for general crimes. It is still being studied," Attorney General HM Prasetyo noted here on Friday.
He added that there was still time to contemplate on the matter.
"This is in accordance with the law on court procedures. Article 234, Paragraph 1, of the law stipulates that appeals from all parties may be withdrawn before the appeal court issues a decision," he pointed out.
In view of this, Prasetyo highlighted the need to conduct a comprehensive study before a decision is made.
Veronica Tan, the wife of Ahok, as the Jakarta governor is also popularly known, has said that her husbands decision to cancel his appeal against his two-year jail sentence was made for no other reason apart from prioritizing the interests of all.
"It is for the sake of all, the common interests of all. It means that with it, we will not prolong the case. We will just follow what the court has decided," Tan remarked.
"I wish to thank you all who have supported me through offering prayers, bouquets, food, cards, letters, and books and holding candle-light vigils," Tan stated at a press conference on Tuesday while quoting her husbands letter to his supporters regarding his decision.
In the letter, Ahok said it was not right to trade demonstrations against each other in the current process he was now through.
"I am afraid many quarters may intervene if the volunteers continue to demonstrate, and clashes may possibly occur against those who do not like us," Ahok added.(*)
