"After DPR`s Commission I conducted a fit and proper test on him and sought views from factions in the DPR, the House`s Commission I endorsed his nomination as the TNI chief," Chief of DPR`s Commission I Abdul Kharis Almasyari stated here on Wednesday.
Almasyari said Tjahjanto had a credible track record, so he met the required credentials to hold the TNI chief`s post.
During the fit and proper test, DPR`s Commission I raised several issues, including leadership, integrity and above all, the extent to which he will be able to guard and maintain the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, he revealed.
"The fit and proper test was conducted in three phases covering the examination of administrative qualifications, the presentation of vision and mission, in-depth review of vision and mission, and decision-making," he noted.
He remarked that DPR`s Commission I had also endorsed the retirement of General Gatot Nurmantyo, as the TNI chief, and lauded his dedication to the state and his serious work.
The DPR`s Commission I is optimistic that Marshal Tjahjanto would continue his predecessor`s positive achievements in leading the TNI.
"We will soon write a letter to the House`s leadership to hold a meeting of the DPR Consultative Board to arrange a plenary meeting to announce the results of the fit and proper test," he noted.
Almasyari stated that after the result of the fit and proper test is announced at the plenary meeting, the DPR leadership will write a letter to the president to inaugurate Marshal Tjahjanto as the new TNI chief.
Marshal Tjahjanto said he was pleased that the fit and proper test ran smoothly.
