"We hope the cash for work labor intensive program will increase money in circulation in villages, consumption and buying power of the people. Across Lampung province the program has already started in 151 locations," he said when inspecting the implementation of the program in Sumatra`s sub-district of Penengahan, South Lampung District, here on Sunday.
According to Presidential Secretariat`s deputy for protocol, press and media Bey Machmudin a total of 150 farmers are involved in the program building and improving irrigation networks stretching 150 meter long per location.
"They will build and improve a secondary irrigation network and like in other places they will be paid on location Rp80,000 and Rp100,000 respectively for helpers and bricklayers each per day," the President said.
Through the program President Jokowi hoped the buying power of the people in the village would increase.
During a visit to West Java recently President Jokowi also observed the implementation of the program. There are a total of 721 projects under the program in the province.
President Jokowi said the most important thing in the program was creating jobs. "There will minimally be 100 to 200 people being paid cash in one village to make consumption to increase. That is the goal," he said.
In the cabinet meeting on December 6, President Joko Widodo instructed his officials to immediately implement the program in a number of regions in the country.
"I wish in January we can see it being implemented. We hope through it the buying power of the people in villages will increase," he said.
During the inspection President Jokowi was accompanied by state enterprises minister Rini Soemarno, public works minister Basuki Hadimuljono, presidential chief staff Moeldoko and Lampung governor Ridho Ficardo.
Before inspecting the cash for work implementation President Jokowi inaugurated toll road projects.
