Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Health Ministry has set a target to discover 80 percent of the estimated 1,020,000 cases of tuberculosis (TB) patients in the country.

"We have set a target to discover 80 percent of the estimated 1,020,000 TB carriers," Director General for Prevention and Control of Disease of the Ministry of Health, Anung Sugihantono, said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sugihantono mentioned that the current findings of TB cases identified in Indonesia ranged from 400-500 cases. The Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO) have put the figure at 1,020,000 people.

From the number of cases of TB findings, as many as 300 thousand cases have not been reported and recorded perfectly, making it difficult to know the TB patients with the type of disease and completeness of treatment.

The director general has explained that the Ministry of Health has targeted 360 thousand TB case findings at non-government health facilities to improve recording of cases.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also works with community organizations, such as Nahdhatul Ulama`s wing organizations of Fatayat NU, Muslimat NU, and Aisyiyah, to help find TB cases by identifying risks.

The Health Ministry is also seeking TB disease screening by targeting prospective Umrah pilgrims who check their health at healthcare facilities.

Of the current findings, as many as 420 thousand TB patients have undergone treatment.
