Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno has encouraged small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) to go online, to compete in global market.

"We have to encourage our SMEs to improve their capability," the minister said in Telkom Craft 2018 exhibition held in Jakarta Convention Center on Thursday.

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom), she said, has Blanja.com as its marketplace that could be used to optimize SME development.

However she emphasized that online business alone would not be enough without quality assurance, including its packaging.

"We have seen the need for training, therefore we establish Rumah Kreatif BUMN (state-owned enterprises creative house) as a synergy among all state-run companies," she added.

The creative house would be managed independently by state enterprises in 520 districts/cities across the country, and conduct training in various sectors, that include information technology and training to improve products` quality.

Some creative houses have also provided co-working space for SMEs and young entrepreneurs who want to start their business.

"We hope that these programs could improve SMEs capability," she said.

Meanwhile President Director of Telkom Indonesia Alx J. Sinaga said the BUMN Creative House would focus on efforts to develop products, from its design, packaging to quality test.

"This would be done until they could meet the standard to compete with other products," he said.

Telkom has also encouraged SMEs under its mentoring to "go modern, go online, go digital and go global" to improve their competitiveness.

"This is in accordance with the minister`s direction that our main goal among others is to improve Indonesian SMEs to compete in domestic as well as global markets," he said.
