The photo exhibition, entitled `A True Partner for World Peace,` will be held from April 9 to 20, 2018, as one of Indonesia`s campaigns for the nomination of UN Security Council non-permanent member for the period 2019-2020, a press release stated.
Dozens of photographs of Indonesia`s active diplomacy role are featured on a large poster design of 22 meters x 2.6 meters size and displayed along the main corridor wall of the UN Headquarters.
Various actions of Indonesian troops in UN peacekeeping missions for the resolution of various global and regional conflicts are also presented in the exhibition.
"This exhibition can provide a complete image of Indonesia`s real contribution as a partner for world peace, stability, and prosperity," Director General of Multilateral Cooperation of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Febrian Ruddyard, remarked here on Monday.
The event was enlivened by more than 200 guests, consisting of ambassadors from friendly countries and UN officials, at the opening of the exhibition.
"Many people do not know that Indonesia has sent UN peacekeepers since 1957. Now, the total of our troops has reached 37,128 people, and Indonesia is among the top 10 contributors of UN forces in the world," Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN in New York Dian Triansyah Djani stated.
The exhibition also featured Indonesia`s works in humanitarian diplomacy as well as within the framework of South-South Cooperation that supports the development of developing countries in Asia-Pacific and Africa since 1955.
The election of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council will take place in June.
Indonesia is competing with the Maldives to become the prospective non-permanent member of the Asia-Pacific region.
