Semarang, C Java, (ANTARA News) - General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Said Aqil Siradj has said that NU would give its support if President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would pick Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

"If Mr Jokowi `proposes` Cak Imin, I will support it," he said here, Sunday evening.

The National Awakening Party (PKB) had earlier declared that its general chairman, Muhaimin Iskandar was ready to be vice presidential candidate of President Jokowi in the election next year.

Iskandar in April 2018, however, said he would be ready to be brokenhearted if Jokowi would not pick him as his running mate.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi has yet to decide on whom he will pick as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election.

Several survey institutions have pegged Airlangga Hartarto, chairman of the Golkar Party, as one of the figures to accompany Jokowi in the upcoming presidential election.

Most poll surveys indicated that Jokowi, in his bid for re-election in 2019, leads over his strongest rival, Prabowo Subianto of the Gerindra party.
