Operational Manager of PT ASDP Indonesian Ferry of Merak, Rudy Mahmudi, stated in Merak on Thursday that 835,651 people who crossed from Merak to Bakauheni is the recapitulation of homecoming from D-8 (eight days before Lebaran) to H-1 or Thursday (June 14) at 08.00 local time.
Thus, there is an increase in the number of passengers by about 16.9 percent when compared to the same period of 2017, with the number of travelers reaching 714,973 people.
"There was an increase of 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year," he remarked.
Mahmudi noted that the number of travelers consisted of 124,578 pedestrians, a figure of more than 0.6 percent compared to last year, which reached 123,832 people.
The number of travelers on vehicles was recorded at 711,073 people, an increase of 20.3 percent from last year, which reached 591,141 people.
The number of vehicles that crossed the Sunda Strait from Merak for this year`s homecoming flow is 167,946 units. The amount is 8.4 percent higher than last year`s number of 154,885 vehicles.
"The number consists of 71,826 units of two-wheeled vehicles, 4.6 percent higher than last year`s 68,667 units," he added.
The four-wheeled vehicles were recorded at as many as 83,223 units, up about 12.8 percent compared to last year`s homecoming flow in the same period, which reached 73 752 units.
Furthermore, buses were recorded at 3,925 units, up 8.6 percent compared to last year, which only reached 3,615 bus units.
"The trucks were recorded at 96,120 units, 11.5 percent more than the previous year, which reached 86,218 units of trucks," he pointed out.
