Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, has announced that Eid travelers are prohibited from entering ports without purchasing tickets in advance.

"This ban is the result of the evaluation of crossings in Merak, Bakauheni, and Ciwandan ports during the recent exodus flow, and in order to optimize sea crossings," he said at a press conference, which was followed online, on Thursday.

The evaluation found that many travelers arrived at the ports without having purchased electronic tickets in advance, he said.

He attributed this to poor discipline among travelers.

Effendy said that port authorities have required travelers to buy ferry tickets in advance through a mobile application.

If the travelers follow the rules, at least 30 percent of crossing delays can be resolved, he added.

He said that travelers without tickets will be forced to make a U-turn, either at the Bakauheni, Merak, or Ciwandan ports.

The return flow of Eid travelers is predicted to begin on April 14, Effendy said.
