Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Star rated hotels in Bali reported a 4.02 percentage point increase in occupancy rate month to month to 67.55 percent in May this year.

"The highest occupancy rate was 71.44 percent recorded by hotels in the district of Badung with the lowest at 46.59 percent in the Buleleng district," the Bali`s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.

In Denpasar the occupancy rates of star-rated hotels averaged 68.83 percent in May, 2018, up 4.87 percentage points from April, I Nyoman Gede Subadri, an official of the provincial office of BPS, said here on Tuesday.

In the district of Gianyar , the occupancy rate was 52.74 percent , up 5.08 percentage points in the same period.

In the district of Karangasem , the occupancy rate rose to 48.48 percent from 41.88 percent.

Four star hotels in Bali recorded the highest increase in occupancy rate in May averaging 72.05 percent , up 3.94 percentage points from 68.11 percent in April .

The second highest growth was recorded by two star hotels with occupancy rates averaging 68.15 percent in May , up 5.94 percentage points from the previous month.

Five-star hotels recorded recorded occupancy rates averaging 64.75 percent in May , up slightly by 1.08 percentage points from April and one-star hotels recorded occupancy rate of 52.08 percent , up 6.37 percentage points month to month.

I Nyoman Gede Subadri said Bali recorded 528,512 visits by foreign tourists in May up 2.27 percent from the previous month.

The number of visits in May , 2018 rose 8 percent year-on-year.

Altogether in the first five months of the year, Bali recorded 2.38 million visits by foreign tourists up 1.79 percent from the same period last year .

In the whole of this year, Bali hopes to chalk up 6.8 million visits by foreign tourists, I Nyoman Gede Subadri said.
