Bogor, W Java 27 (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has encouraged businessmen to increase exports as part of the efforts to deal with the depreciation of the rupiah`s exchange rate against the US dollar.

"Mr President has encouraged businessmen to always focus on increasing economic activities and exports," Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Thursday night.

By increasing exports, which prioritize the competitive edge of Indonesian products, the president has expressed hope that the nation will be able to cope with the depreciation of the rupiah`s exchange rate against the dollar, the minister noted.

The president invited some 40 large-scale and export-oriented businessmen to the meeting held at the palace on Thursday night, she remarked.

The head of state also took the opportunity to get inputs from the businessmen to create cooperation and mutual trust between the government and the business world, she pointed out.

"It (the meeting) is aimed at creating synergy to face global uncertainties," she stated.

She said the government has also eased licensing procedures through online single submission or the OSS. It also encouraged exporters to bring back their foreign exchange earnings to Indonesia.

"We, the government, will make every effort to bring back the foreign exchange earnings and use them to promote businesses in the country," she added.
