"We have prepared several food inspection simulations in a bid to ensure food safety for athletes," Head of the Regional Health Laboratory (Labkesda) of the Dinkes, Endra Muryanto noted in Jakarta on Saturday.
During the implementation of the 2018 Asian Games in the capital, the Dinkes will conduct food safety evaluation activities by examining the food of all athletes.
"We will check the food thrice a day, i.e., in the morning, noon, and night. A total of 57 officers will be deployed at several lodging locations to check the athletes` food," Endra remarked.
He said several officers to be deployed to check the safety of food offered to athletes came from Jakarta`s Labkesda, Sub-district Health Center, and Jakarta Food and Drug Administration Agency.
"Hence, the inspection of food by the officer is combined, and as many as 17 officers from the Labkesda Jakarta will be deployed. All officers will conduct food inspection at the Athlete Housing or other lodging facilities," Endra noted.
He revealed that the examination and testing of food was conducted to detect several harmful substances in the food consumed by athletes, including methylen yellow, rhodamin, borax, formalin, cyanide, and arsenic.
"After testing and once the results are known, it can be ascertained whether the food to be consumed by the Asian Games athletes is safe and free of harmful substances," Endra noted.
