"These athletes from Medan are expected to contribute medals to the Indonesian contingent," Indonesian National Sports Committee Chairman in Medan Eddy Sibarani remarked here on Thursday.
The athletes are Lindswell, Juwita Niza Wazni, Mei Yulianingsih, and Harris Horatio in wushu; Jintar Simanjuntak and Desyinta Banurea for karate; Aldila Indriyati and Hardy Rahmadian in bowling; Silvester Golbet Manik and Erlangga Andaru Rinaldi for water polo; and Nanda Ibnasia Rahman in hockey.
In addition, five officials from Medan are Herman and Jonathan Sergio Gunawan in bowling, Dr Novita MPd in wushu, Ibrahim MPd in hockey, and Deni in kurash.
Sibarani said his side felt immense pride since in addition to the several athletes from Medan City, the Asian Games this year is being hosted by Indonesia, with the first time being in 1962.
Being able to participate in the sports events at the Asian Games is a matter of pride and is the culmination of the hard work of every athlete.
The success achieved by the athletes in the Asian Games should be able to boost the enthusiasm of other young Medan athletes to continue to work diligently to deliver good achievements.
He believes Medan`s athletes can deliver achievements and win medals in the 2018 Asian Games as in the previous event.
"To be certain, in order to deliver achievements, athletes must be focused and disciplined and always follow the directions of the coaches and officials and maintain optimal conditions to continue to excel while competing," he stated.
Moreover, he added that these athletes from Medan have experience in competing in international sporting events, and some of them had contributed gold, silver, and bronze medals to Indonesia during the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea.
