Jakarta (ANTARA News) - People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan has asked all parties to distance themselves from hatred in the face of the 2019 legislative and presidential elections.

"Let`s clear the atmosphere from the pollution of hatred and present the competition of ideas and national narratives," Hasan remarked at the 2018 MPR Annual Session, with the agenda of hearing the state of the nation address by the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Parliament Building here on Thursday.

The MPR chief noted that the people of Indonesia must be the party that benefits the most from the election. Whoever is elected must spell a victory for the Indonesian people.

"The choices can be different, but our red and white will remain the same," he said, adding that the 2019 legislative and presidential elections must be the culmination of the achievements of a democratic life, based on 73 years of independence.

Hasan invited the audience and all the people of Indonesia to jointly realize direct, transparent, free, honest, fair and safe elections.

The annual session of the MPR was also attended by Vice President M Jusuf Kalla, third Indonesian President BJ Habibie, fifth Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri, former Vice President Try Sutrisno, and former Vice President Boediono.
