Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - A major earthquake hit Bali, the country`s largest tourist island at 0.64 local time on Thursday, but no report of casualty and damage to property, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics office (BMKG) said.

BMKG called on the people to remain calm Until, saying "until 07.15 local time we have see no sign of aftershocks."

Head of the Bali office of BMKG Taufik Gunawan said here on Thursday the quake had an epicenter in the sea 103 kilometers from this provincial city at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The people in Kuta, Jimbaran, Denpasar, Gianyar on the island of Bali, and in Mataram of West Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok and Gumuk Mas Jember, felt the tremors, Taufik said.

There had not been report of damage caused by the quake, he said, adding there was no sign of tsunami.

The quake caused panic as it came only days after the neighboring island of Lombok was hit by succession of big quakes with magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale on July 29, followed by one 7 on the Richter scale on August 5 and 6.2 and 6.5 on the Richer scale before the last 6.9 on the Ruicher scale on August 18 leaving around 550 people killed on the island.
