Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - The United Nations (UN) has selected Rahmawati Husein as Indonesia`s representative to be a member of the Advisory Group for the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), a UN funding mechanism for humanitarian emergencies.

This statement was made by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry and received by Antara here, Tuesday.

The appointment of an Indonesian representative as a member of the CERF Advisory Group demonstrates the international community`s trust in Indonesia in the humanitarian field.

It also reflects the international community`s rising expectations from Indonesia to continue to play an active role in efforts to address the global humanitarian crisis.

Husein, an expert in handling humanitarian emergencies, has been working in the field of disaster management for over a decade since the Aceh tsunami in 2005.

Through her work in the field of disaster management and humanitarian acts, Husein has contributed significantly to the promotion of Indonesia`s humanitarian diplomacy.

This contribution was demonstrated through her role as a member of the Advisory Group for the National Disaster Management Agency and as a member of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Humanitarian Alliance for Myanmar and Bangladesh, among others.

The CERF Advisory Group was formed based on an agreement at the 60th UN General Assembly in 2005 through a UN Resolution on Efforts to Strengthen the Coordination of UN Humanitarian Emergency Assistance.

The CERF advisory group comprises experts, who play roles in providing guidance, views, and recommendations in utilizing, managing, and restoring the CERF funding.

The selection of the CERF Advisory Group members was independently conducted by the CERF Secretariat in New York since July 2018.

The criteria as members of the group include experience and expertise, gender representation, and regional representation.

CERF is a tactical, fast, and apolitical mechanism for providing humanitarian assistance in which funds can be channeled within less than 48 hours to respond to emergency situations.
