The 24-year-old suspect confessed that he stole the 29-year-old Valentina Andrea`s credit card when cleaning her room on September 5, Chief of Kuta Selatan police precinct Adjunct Commissioner Doddy Monza said here on Saturday.
"The suspect is the villa`s part-time worker. He told the police investigators that he committed the crime alone," he said adding that the credit card was kept inside a cupboard of the villa`s rented room.
After getting the Chilean tourist`s credit card, Yonaris Kido then submitted it to his friend named Anton and asked him to withdraw money by using the stolen credit card, Doddy Monza said.
Anton withdrew a total of Rp20 million from the credit card at Manzona and Dini art shops in Seminyak of Kuta area, he said.
Bali Island has been the most popular destination in Indonesia`s tourism industry for decades thanks to its natural beauty and cultural richness as well as peaceful and secure condition.
In October this year, the resort island will host an annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
For this purpose, security has been parts of the Indonesian Government`s priorities. According to Bali police chief spokesman Sr.Com. Henky Widjaja, Bali is currently peaceful as police have continued to launch anti terrorist and anti criminality operations.
He said police and the military regularly hold security simulation ahead of the IMF-World Bank meeting every week .
Between 12,000 to 15,000 people are expected to attend the Annual Meetings, including about 3,500 delegates from 189 member countries, roughly 1,000 media representatives, and more than 5,000 participants representing the private sector, the banking community, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and also observers and parliamentarians.
Indonesia hopes to gain from hosting the meeting in drawing more tourists to the country.
