The award was bestowed by the MURI manager at the opening session of the 35th International Council of Women (ICW) General Assembly and National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations at the Grand Inna Malioboro Hotel, Yogyakarta, on Thursday.
On the occasion, MURI awarded three different parties -- the Indonesian Congress of Women (Kowani), the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and the chairperson of Kowani Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo -- for organizing a meeting attended by a huge number of women organizations totaling one thousand.
More than a thousand women figures gathered at the 35th General Assembly of the International Council of Women (ICW) -- the women`s organization affiliated with the United Nations -- and National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations.
Minister Rini Soemarno expressed pride over the presence of a thousand women`s organizations in Indonesia.
"I initially inquired about whether there are one thousand (women organizations) (and whether there) are one thousand women or one thousand women organizations. However, I received confirmation that there are, in fact, one thousand women organizations. I am proud of it," she affirmed.
Soemarno`s statement was greeted with an applause from the audience.
She said the Indonesian government had paid significant attention to every effort to empower women in all sectors.
Minister Soemarno is one of the eight women ministers, who held strategic positions in the government cabinet.
"We have power to push this country to become stronger and more advanced," she stated.
She emphasized that women should cooperate and help each other to cope with women`s various problems to develop the nation.
The opening session was also attended by Deputy Governor of Yogyakarta KGPAA Paku Alam, President of ICW Kim Jungsook, the wife of Yogyakarta Governor GKR Hemas, Chairperson of the Indonesian Women`s Congress (Kowani) Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo, top government officials, several CEOs, members of board of directors, and members of board of supervisors of state-owned companies.
The event is held by the ICW and the Indonesian Women`s Congress or Kowani, in cooperation with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, in which 35 state-owned companies are involved in supporting the event, including Antara News Agency.
