"Kowani has held leadership trainings for young women hoping to turn out strong female leaders with character both for the public and private sectors," Kowani`s chairwoman Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo addressing 159 delegates of the International Council of Women (ICW) from 49 countries here on Saturday.
Therefore, education becomes the main focus of the country`s oldest and largest women`s organization to turn out more female leaders in the future, Giwo said.
"Education has always been high in the agenda of Kowani since it was established and held its first congress in December 1928," said the new deputy president of ICW. Giwo was just elected earlier that day deputy president of ICW for the next three years term.
She said education and training for women at present would be given with more emphasis on the importance of the role of "Mothers of the Nation" carrying a determinant role in the national advancement.
The words of Mothers of the Nation carrying an ideal portrait of Indonesian women with strong leadership, she added.
"Mothers of the Nation as said by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) yesterday is a portrait of a leader that has to be followed by women as an agent of change," she said.
On Friday President Joko Widodo opened the 35th general session of ICW and National Meeting of 1,000 Indonesian`s women`s organizations at Pendopo Balkondes, Yogyakarta saying Mothers of the Nation are women devoted to education and to improvement of the mentality of the younger generation.
"Mothers of the Nation also maintain good family morality, protect the environment for the future generations and take part in development of the people`s economy," Jokowi said.
The presentation of reports and election of ICW board of Director on Saturday were part of the 35th General Session of the International Council of Women in this ancient city from 13 to 18 September.
After the election of the ICW Board of Directors for the next three years term 159 delegates from 49 countries will take part in the tour of the city and to have dinner in the Yogyakarta Sultanate Palace.
The 35th General Session of ICW and the National Meeting of 1,000 Indonesian Women`s Organization is held by Kowani in cooperation with the Ministry of State Enterprises and is fully supported by 35 state companies including BNI, Telkom Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia, and Perum LKBN Antara.
