"We have readied 32 immigration counters in cooperation with (the airport operator) Angkasa Pura II and 16 automatic counters at terminal 3. Of the total, we have prepared 20 counters for the Asian Para Games guests. However, it depends on the situation," Head of the Soekarno-Hatta airport immigration office Enang Supriyadi stated here on Tuesday.
The immigration office has also prepared four counters at terminal 2 of the airport to serve the APG participants.
"The number of Asian Para Games participants will certainly be lesser than those for the Asian Games. We have learned from the Asian Games," he noted.
In addition to special counters for the APG participants, the immigration office has prepared visa and passport readers, with an average reading speed of one minute for the arrival process and 15 seconds for the departure process.
"We have prepared three teams, each with 30 personnel, that will work in shifts for 24 hours in collaboration with the Indonesia Asian Para Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INAPGOC)," Supriyadi remarked.
Head of INAPGOC Raja Sapta Oktohari noted that 250 volunteers from -- the arrival-departure division, accreditation division, transportation division, and protocolar division -- will be readied at the airport from Sept 29 to Oct 14.
"We have recruited some eight thousand volunteers and placed them in divisions, including the four divisions that will fulfill their tasks at the airport," Oktohari stated.
As many as 1,100 of the total 2,838 athletes to participate in the multi-sporting event are wheelchair users.
"Three types of wheelchair users are those on the 135-kilogram capacity electric wheelchair, mechanical wheelchair, and those using walking sticks. They would need special treatment," Oktohari added.
