Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Government, through the Ministry of Education and Culture and Casio Computer Co., Ltd, will improve student competencies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Through a partnership agreement, the Ministry of Education and Culture and Casio Computer Co., Ltd agreed to increase the interest and competencies of educators and students in the fields of STEM, as well as the development of curriculum, learning methods, and teaching materials in the same field.

"The document of the agreement was signed today as a follow-up and development of the cooperation that we have established so far," Culture and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendy remarked here on Thursday.

Effendy noted that the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Japanese Casio Computer company is a positive step to accelerate the process of increasing the capacity of teachers, especially those teaching Mathematics at the senior high school and vocational high school levels.

The collaboration also includes increasing the interest and competencies of students through industrial work practices, study visits, and training, as well as developing curriculum tools, learning methods, and teaching materials supported by scientific calculator technology.

"Hopefully, this would be a good step for us to work to accelerate the equal distribution of the quality of education in Indonesia, especially in the field of learning mathematics," the minister stated.

In the meantime, Casio Computer Executive President Hiroshi Nakamura remarked that the cooperation was expected to contribute to improving the quality of education in Indonesia.

"Through this agreement, Casio Computer and the Ministry of Education and Culture will officially begin implementing various education programs to support Indonesian education, which is improving the competence of educators; increasing the competencies and interests of students; and developing curriculum, learning methods, and teaching materials in the scope of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics," Nakamura remarked.

Nakamura said his side believes that various efforts had been made by the Indonesian government to prepare the next generation of the nation as one of the important resources owned by the state to be ready to face competition at the global level.
