Makassar, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is preparing "humanity flight" to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi.

In connection with the opening of Mutiara Sis Aljufri Airport in Palu, Central Sulawesi, for limited aid and commercial flights, Garuda is preparing a special humanity flight to transport officers and distribute humanitarian assistance to earthquake victims, Garuda Vice Corporate Secretary remarked in a press statement on Sunday.

He said that the special flight used Garuda ATR 72/600 aircraft

GA 6086 with the route of Makassar-Palu at 2 pm to 3:45 p.m. local time, and GA 6097 with the route of Palu-Makassar at 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. local time.

The transported officers consist of a joint team of BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Airnav Officers, Regional Airport Authority, and GMF AeroAsia technical officers.

In addition to transporting officers to help smooth the handling of the victims in Palu, the special flight also transported relief goods to the victims of the earthquake, including tents, basic necessities, food and beverage needs, baby equipment, medicines and clothing.

In connection with the earthquake that occurred in Palu, Garuda Indonesia and its subsidiaries continued to coordinate with all stakeholders in ensuring that the operational conditions of the flight went smoothly, not only by ensuring smooth flow of passengers but also other operational aspects in supporting the smooth supply of logistics assistance to the community.

Regarding the current situation, Garuda Indonesia has not been able to operate regular flights to Palu airport considering operational considerations.

Garuda Indonesia continues to carry out intensive coordination with all airport-based service stakeholders to ensure the smooth operational preparation of flights to and from Palu.

Garuda Indonesia also urged passengers to reassert their flight schedules through Garuda Indonesia call centers at 021-23519999 and 0804 1 807 807.
