Kalla was flanked by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Social Affairs Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, and Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono during the visit.
He would visit injured victims being treated in Wirabuana Hospital, East Palu sub-district, and later proceed to Balaroa housing complex in West Palu, which sunk into the Earth and disappeared due to liquefaction.
The Vice President is expected to attend Friday mass prayers in Kebonena and then go to Pantoloan seaport to review relief distribution.
Before returning to Jakarta on Friday afternoon, Kalla will chair a coordinating meeting on rescue operations in Palu, Husain Abdullah, spokesman of the Vice President, said in a statement.
The natural disasters in Central Sulawesi claimed more than 1,400 lives, displaced over 60 thousand people, and destroyed at least 60 thousand buildings. Several people are still missing, and bodies are still trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
