"We are deeply touched by what has happened, and the Indonesian people are very strong and resilient. On behalf of the international community, I say your solidarity is very strong, so we really appreciate and respect the government and the community," Georgieva said while reviewing the Perumnas Balaroa Palu, Friday.
Georgieva conducted a joint review with Vice President M Jusuf Kalla and Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres to Balaroa to witness firsthand the impact of the liquidation that caused the region to be swallowed, and ultimately collapse into the ground.
Georgieva said that based on the World Bank`s assessment, the damages to infrastructure and housing that occurred during the tragedy amounted to US$531 million.
On the occasion, Georgieva also expressed deep sorrow for the events that occurred. "But we know from experience that the best memories that can be built from disaster victims are to rebuild better," he said.
Meanwhile, on this occasion, Georgieva also observed the Anutapura General Hospital, the back part of which was destroyed and led to many casualties. Patients still appear in tents in the front yard of the hospital.
Georgieva also inspected refugees sheltered in Vatulemo field, opposite the mayor`s office.
