Perum Perindo hopes to export US$101 million worth of fish based on the commitments this year reached with buyers in Algeria, Serbia, Vietnam, Italia, China, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
"We will follow up steps based on the commitments. We will seek to meet their requests," company`s secretary Agung Pamujo said here on Thursday.
Agung said Algeria had placed order for 60 tons of skipjack/tuna per day or 14,400 tons per year worth around US$28.8 million, Serbia wants fillet and tuna chunk valued at US$8.9 million per year, Vietnam orders for Long Tail Tuna valued at US$1.8 million per year.
He said Italy wants squid , cuttlefish, Red Snapper Whole, Octopus and Fillet Snapper all worth US$49.41 million, China and Kuwait ordered for vannamei shrimp valued at US$9.6 million and tiger shrimps US$1.92 million respectively; and Jeddah wants fresh fish including Parrot, Grouper and Anggoli valued at US$1.35 million per year.
Altogether, the total export commitment a year is valued at US$101 million.
Realization of the commitments would improve the export performance of the company . Early last months Perum Perindo exported fish to the United States and Europe.
The government hopes to boost fish exports after the country succeeded in increasing fish stock. The country`s fish stock increased thanks to tough policy against illegal fishing in the past several years .
The government has exploded and sunk hundreds of foreign fishing vessels found illegally operating in Indonesian waters.
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said Indonesia is expected to earn more from fish exports this year.
In the first half of the year, exports already reached US$2.27 billion or 12.88 percent larger than US$2 billion in the same period last year.
"We have adopted the right policy . Exports in 2018 will be larger than in 2017," the Minister said last month.
Exports began to rise in 2017 to US$4.52 billion after shrinking to US$3.94 billion in 2015 from US$4.64 billion in 2014.
Export volume in the first half of 2018 reached 510,000 tons or 7.21 percent larger than 475,000 tons in the same period last year.
Susi attributed the increase in the fish exports to the firm policy against illegal fishing since late 2014.
In addition, fishermen began to adopt sustainable fishing method in sea fishing.
