Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s government is encouraging the development of digital economy by benefiting from technological developments to support inclusive growth and sustainable development, Vice President Jusuf Kalla told Group of Twenty (G20) leaders in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"The digital era has changed our lives, so we must ensure that all sections of the community can enjoy all benefits of the digital era," the vice president noted in a press statement released on Saturday.

Digital economy is one of the topics brought up by Indonesia at the G20 Summit. It is an innovative business model to encourage economic development in countries with large economies in the world.

Kalla believes technological innovations in the economic field can encourage economic equality, creation of job opportunities, and expansion of financial inclusion.

Earlier, the vice president stated at a press conference in Argentina that digitalization of the economic sector can encourage Indonesian businessmen to expand the markets for their products to even abroad.

"Digitalization has a positive impact on the people, who do not know where to export their products," he noted during a video press conference on the sidelines of his visit to Argentina on Thursday evening.

However, he added that the digitalization of trade has not offered a fair regulation for local businesspersons since their platform is dominated by certain marketplaces.

"Their platform is monopolized by Amazon and Alibaba. There is large conglomeration," he pointed out.

Hence, Indonesia has encouraged a fair policy for micro, small, and medium businessmen in line with the growth of digital economy, he stated.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara noted that G20 members have frequently faced challenges in terms of the gini coefficient and gini ratio in implementing digital economy.

He said G20 social and economic ministers had agreed to reduce the gini ratio at a G20 ministerial meeting.
