"Indonesia is a large country, with more than 17 thousand islands, and we want the people here in the district of Banggai, Central Sulawesi, to get acquainted with their counterparts in the districts of Wamena and Yahikimo in Papua and in the district of Bener Meriah in Aceh Province," President Jokowi remarked here on Sunday.
The president made the statement at the Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport in Luwuk Sub-district while inaugurating a new airport and four new airport terminals across the island of Sulawesi.
One of the newly built and inaugurated airports is the Morowali Airport in Central Sulawesi.
The four airport terminals to be inaugurated were the Syukuran Aminuddin Amir airport terminal in Central Sulawesi, the Haji Aeropala Selayar airport terminal, and the new Lagaligo-Bua airport terminal in South Sulawesi, and the Betoambari airport terminal in Southeast Sulawesi.
In the meantime, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the Morowali airport in Central Sulawesi has a runway measuring 1,050 meters in length and 30 meters in width, while Aeroppala Airport in Selaway has a 1,950-meter runway.
"Today, we inaugurated five airports, and I report that this year we built 10 new airports, and next year, five airports to the total of 27 airports," Minister Sumadi noted.
