"The export value of various fishery commodities in Central Java until November 2018 reached Rp4.7 trillion, which indicated an increase of 59 percent from last year, when it was valued at only Rp2.9 trillion," Head of Fish Quarantine, Quality Control and Fisheries Security (BKIPM) Semarang Raden Gatot Perdana stated in Semarang on Thursday.
The fisheries commodities exported to 19 countries were still dominated by crabs, with 37.5 percent; followed by shrimp, with 17.7 percent; squid, with 10 percent; surimi, with 8.5 percent; and lobster, with 3.2 percent.
Central Java`s fisheries commodity export destinations included the United States, Japan, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
"The United States was placed in the first position as an export destination country, with 36.3 percent exports, or 383 tons of fisheries commodities," he remarked.
The increase in the value of exports of Central Java`s fishery commodities was due to the participation of all related components, both from the government and the private side with their support towards exports, he added.
He also explained that the Semarang BKIPM will continue to make serious efforts to provide the best services, in order to maintain the value of fisheries commodity exports and for it to continue to increase in the future.
"We hope that the export value of fishery commodities can continue to increase next year, along with programs from the government to improve the economy of the community through various processed fisheries," he pointed out.
