"For 2018, we have recorded some 2,050 violations during the election process," Ratna Dewi Pettalolo, the commissioner of Bawaslu, noted here, Monday.
Presidential and legislative elections will be organized directly, democratically, and simultaneously across Indonesia on April 17, 2019, which will be the fourth so far.
The campaign period, to last until April 13, 2019, kicked off in Indonesia, with the General Election Commission (KPU) organizing an event for the signing of a declaration pledging a peaceful campaign in Jakarta on September 23, 2018.
Of the total violations, 1,669 were found by Bawaslu, while 381 were discovered based on reports filed by the public.
The violations comprised 1,319 cases of administrative violations, 106 potential crimes, 96 cases concerning election code of ethics, and 24 related to neutrality of civil servants.
Some 820 violations were committed by election participants, 546 by election campaign teams, 520 by election executors, 108 by illegible voters, 30 by officials, and 24 by civil servants. There were also more than 500 reports on disputes.
Many cases of violations also concern election campaign props.
Next year`s race will be a re-run of the bitter 2014 presidential election, as incumbent Joko Widodo and retired general Prabowo Subianto are again set to go head-to-head.
