Putussibau, W Kalimantan, (ANTARA News) - The search and rescue (SAR) team found bodies of 12 victims of a boat that sunk in Kapuas River, Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan, thereby bringing the total fatality count in the incident to 13.

"Bodies of the 12 victims were found. Hence, we have found all victims of the sunken boat," Kapuas Hulu Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Handoyo stated when contacted here on Tuesday.

The SAR team has found eight bodies in the river on Monday and were handed over to their families, while four other bodies were found on Tuesday.

A motorboat carrying some 24 passengers and nine motorized vehicles sank in Kapuas River in Nanga Seberuang Village of Kapuas Hulu District. The incident occurred at 8 p.m. local time on Saturday (Jan 19) overnight in Kapuas River.

When the motorboat was about to cross to the dock, it suddenly ran aground, allegedly due to overload.

"One person died, 12 people went missing, and 11 passengers are currently being treated at the Seberuang Health Center," Kapuas Hulu Police Criminal Investigation Unit, First Police Inspector Siko revealed.
