According to data of SKK Migas, the 10 areas are Mesozoic Play in North Sumatra, Basin Center in the Center of Sumatra, Fractured Basement Play in South Sumatra, Offshore Tarakan, NE Java-Makassar Strait, Kutai Offshore, Buton Offshore, Plio-Pleistocene and Miocene Sandtone Play in Northern Papua, Jurassic Sandstone Play in Bird Body Papua, and Warim Papua.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar confirmed on Friday that Indonesia has giant oil and gas fields in some regions.
The task force has found natural gas reserves of two trillion cubic feet in the Fractured Basement Play in South Sumatra in the Sakakemang working area, in Musi Banyuasin District, South Sumatra. Energy company Repsol held the cooperation contract.
"Hopefully, it would encourage the spirit of exploration in Indonesia, as there are many basins and plays that have yet to be explored. Alhamdulillah, (thank God), we have found new ones," he noted.
The potential of the existing gas basin can be optimized by the application of hard work and new technology, with adjustment in the oil and gas fiscal system policy.
The government will also ease the process of offering oil and gas working area to investors. Data on registered basins will be opened for analysis.
