Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Incumbent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his wife, Iriana Jokowi, were riding a pedicab on their way to Karebosi Square in Makassar, where the presidential candidate holding an open campaign rally on Sunday.

M Jusuf Kalla and Mrs Mufidah Kalla as well as Erick Thohir, chairman of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin national campaign team (TKN) also rode separate pedicabs while accompanying Jokowi.

Enlivening the parade were 65 local artists performing two different traditional dances, 50 personnel of a marching band, and 100 athletes of silat martial art.

South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah, Chairman of Golkar Party Airlangga Hartanto, and Chairman of National Democrat (NasDem) Party Surya Paloh also joined the event.

The open campaign in Karebosi began at 11 a.m. local time. From Makassar, Jokowi and entourage would proceed to Gowa where some 30 thousand people were expected to attend another open campaign of Jokowi.

At 2 p.m. local time, Jokowi and his entourage would leave South Sulawesi for Manado, North Sulawesi.

Indonesia will organize legislative and presidential elections simultaneously on April 17, 2019, across the country.

Of its total population of 260 million, over 192 million people in Indonesia have been registered as illegible voters.

The 2019 presidential election is seen by many as a repeat of the bitter presidential battle of 2014, wherein Jokowi and Prabowo Subianto went head-to-head.
