Pangkalpinang (ANTARA) - The Home Affairs Ministry commended the people in Bangka Belitung Islands Province for turning up in high numbers to vote in the 2019 presidential election and holding the democratic fiesta peacefully.

"I echo the home affairs minister's message due to the strong participation of Babylonians to exercise their right to vote. On an average, all of Indonesia, it is 80 percent," Didik Suprayinto remarked on Friday.

Suprayinto noted that the Home Affairs Ministry had also lauded all ranks of the military (TNI), police (Polri), Civil service police Unit (satpol PP), and Community Protection (Linmas) as well as those toiling to ensure the smooth, safe, and peaceful implementation of the 2019 elections.

"We are upbeat of this conducive condition being maintained till the elected president is appointed later," he affirmed.

Bangka Belitung Islands Province Regional Secretary Yan Megawandi stated that the general elections in Bangka Belitung were held in a smooth, orderly, and controlled way.

"The governor, along with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), General Elections Commission (KPU), and Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), left no stone unturned in managing and implementing this year's simultaneous election activities in line with this regional government's plans," he remarked.

Megawandi pointed to the record turnout of members of the community for the 2019 election, exceeding 70 percent.

"According to the latest data, the participation rate has touched over 70 percent, the highest to ever be recorded in Bangka Belitung from a series of elections and post-conflict local elections," he added.
