"The stowaways partaking in the mass protest are looking to instigate the police into becoming irate and committing anarchic acts that result in rioting," he noted in a press statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
No one wants horizontal conflicts arising from misunderstanding over the election results, he emphasized, adding that in spite of being exhausted, the security personnel were urged to exhibit self-restraint in restoring law and order and normalcy in line with the laws.
Soesatyo has appealed to protestors to voice their aspirations in a peaceful manner and to steer clear from committing anarchic acts.
He also urged political elites and eminent people of Indonesia to help maintain a conducive situation.
On Tuesday, several hundred demonstrators staged a peaceful rally against what they believed as fraudulent presidential elections.
A lethal riot erupted in Central Jakarta's Tanah Abang area from Tuesday evening to early Wednesday after the riot-control police securing the Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) in Jakarta's Central Business District dispersed the sympathizers of the People's Sovereignty National Movement.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had earlier reported that six people died in the riot. He was quoted by Elshinta Radio as saying that the incidents on Tuesday evening and early Wednesday necessitate thorough investigation to get to the root cause of the problem.
Baswedan further urged societal elements to allow the political process to be conducted through legal procedures rather than seeking a resolution through rioting on the street.
"I also call on security personnel to see to those looking to echo their views as citizens. Please follow all procedures. The objective is to protect the people. Let us exercise self-restraint and maintain a peaceful condition," he told Elshinta Radio.
Another incident came to light in which the Indonesian police detained at least 20 people for their alleged role in inciting the masses to behave in a violent and incontrollable manner in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, from Tuesday evening to early Wednesday.
On early May 21, at 1:28 a.m. local time, the general Election Commission (KPU) made an official announcement of Jokowi winning the presidential election after the national vote tally concluded.
The final tally revealed that the Joko Widodo (Jokowi) -Maruf Amin pair secured 85 million votes, or 55.5 percent of the national vote, compared to challengers Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno's 68 million votes, or 44.5 percent.
The Jokowi-Amin pair had declared victory, while the Prabowo-Sandi pair had yet to concede defeat and vowed to file an official complaint with the Constitutional Court (MK).
