Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - The air pollution emergency status in Riau was revoked following an improvement in air quality and no further detection of hotspots.

The Air Quality Index in Pekanbaru, Siak, Kampai, Dumai, Rokan Hilir, and Bengkalis during the past three days were reported at a medium to good level, Acting Secretary of the Riau Provincial Administration Ahmadsyah Harrofie stated here on Wednesday.

The emergency status was revoked on September 30, 2019, in line with the result of a meeting between the local government and Environment and Forestry Affairs Ministry.

"(Satellite) data on September 30 indicated no hotspot, with a confidence level of 70 percent. Hence, from October 1, all haze victim evacuation posts have been shut down," he stated.

Earlier, on September 23, an air pollution emergency status was declared in Riau. The government also provided healthcare posts to tend to the victims of smog emanating from land and forest fires in the region.

The police have named 323 individuals and 11 corporations as suspects in the land and forest fires. Investigation into the case has been handled by the six regional police of Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.

Indonesian Police's Director of Special Crime of the Criminal Investigation Unit Brig. Gen. Muhammad Fadil Imran remarked that the police had worked in close collaboration with environmental experts and the Environment and Forestry Affairs Ministry for investigation into the case.
