The request letter was concerning the transfer of Felix's detention location to a penitentiary that had a super-maximum security systemMataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The Correctional Facilities of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, await the decision of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights' Directorate General of Correctional Affairs to determine the relocation of convicted French drug smuggler Dorfin Felix. Head of the Facilities, Tri Saptono Sambudji said in Mataram, Wednesday, that the decision they are waiting for is a follow-up to a letter that had been sent to the directorate general through the ministry's Office in West Nusa Tenggara.
"We are now waiting (for that decision)," he said.
The request letter was concerning the transfer of Felix's detention location to a penitentiary that had a super-maximum security system, he explained.
One of the prisons that has such a security system is the Nusakambangan Prison.
"I cannot be sure when there will be a reply, but we sent the letter a month ago," he said.
While awaiting a reply, the Mataram detention center had imposed more stringent supervision on Felix, in a bid to thwart any attempt to escape.
"We check on him more intensively, every hour," he said.
He further explained that Felix had long been categorized as a high-risk convict, as he had attempted to escape from the prison twice.
Earlier, the West Nusa Tenggara High Court sentenced Felix to 19 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rp1 billion or another year in prison.
The French national attempted to smuggle in methamphetamine, amphetamine, ketamine, and methylendioximetamfetamine or MDMA, weighing a total of 2.98 kilograms.
He received €5,000 when smuggling the drugs into Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, it was revealed. (INE)
