Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police temporarily closed a road section around the National Monument (Monas) Square area in Central Jakarta following the occurrence of a blast on Tuesday morning.

According to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Traffic Management Center, the closed road section which was made effective at around 8:37 a.m. local time affected the traffic flows on Medan Merdeka Timur and Medan Merdeka Utara areas.

The closure of the road section was aimed to help the police investigators do their work at the site of the blast. Several policemen were seen placing barricades to configure traffic redirection and safeguarding the closed road section.

A blast broke out at the National Monument (Monas) Square in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

The Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police deployed a team of investigators to the site of the incident soon after receiving a report on the blast.

"We have been checking the site of the blast. We have just finished out morning roll call," Chief of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Criminal Investigation Department Adjunct Sen.Coms.Tahan Marpaung told ANTARA.

The local police spokesman has yet to give an official statement on the causes of the blast and whether or not there were casualties in the incident.

However, Kompas.com was quoted as saying that two members of the Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) sustained injuries due to the blast.

On Nov 13, a blast also occurred in the Medan city police headquarters in North Sumatra Province causing a suicide bomber to get killed and six others to sustained injuries.
