"I hope for the support of the US-ASEAN (Business) Council to provide capacity-building assistance and scholarships to the Indonesian workforce to enable them to compete in the global market," Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah noted in a press statement released on Friday.
Fauziyah remarked that the Indonesian government, under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, is prioritizing the development of human resources for which support from various parties, including US companies, are direly required.
"It is also important for US companies to increase investment in Indonesian job training centers as part of the efforts to help the Indonesian government improve the competency of local workers," she added.
According to the Manpower Ministry, Indonesia has a total of 305 job training centers across the country.
The US-ASEAN Business Council is a leading advocacy group aimed at fostering economic growth and trade ties between the US and 10 ASEAN member countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
