Hence, there may be four million pills
Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) exposed the reality on Monday that four houses in Bandung City, West Java, raided by the agency's personnel and local policemen on Sunday, produced some four million carisoprodol-containing pills.

"This is a violation of the law. Several substances used for producing these illicit drugs are actually for pharmaceutical drugs and industries. However, they are misused," BNN Eradication Division Deputy Head Inspector General Arman Depari stated.

Speaking to journalists at the raided houses in Cisaranten Endah Village, Arcamanik Sub-district, Bandung City, on Monday, Depari projected some four million pills containing the banned psychotropic substances.

Three of the four million pills were packed and would have been ready for sale to consumers, while an additional million were not packed, and several of them were also unfinished products.

"Hence, there may be four million pills," he remarked.

In producing these four million pills, the suspects used psychotropic substances for hard drugs. The BNN investigators still found the remaining stocks of those substances for manufacturing some 10 million pills, he noted.

In connection with this drug case, the BNN investigators had named five suspects identified as Chandra Rully alias Bram (38), Sukaryo alias Nono (40), Marvin alias Vino (35), Suwarno (53), and Iwan Ridwan alias Jafra (54).

Indonesia remains under serious threat from drug dealers, as several individuals from its working-age population have been trapped in a vicious circle.

The BNN's report that some 50 Indonesians die of drug use every day has not yet deterred drug users in the country from consuming these banned substances.

The users of crystal methamphetamine, narcotics, marijuana, and other types of addictive drugs are from any community and from distinct socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Hence, Indonesia is perceived by both domestic and transnational drug dealers as a potential market due to its huge population and millions of drug users.

The value of drug trade in the country is estimated to have reached nearly Rp66 trillion.
