Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) began operating the so-called "Rail Clinic" on Thursday as part of the precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) at stations and other railway facilities.

PT KAI President Director Edi Sukmoro launched the operation of the Rail Clinic at Poncol Station in Semarang, Central Java.

The Rail Clinic will operate along with an inspection train to offer coronavirus preventive services, he stated.

The two trains will operate on Java's southern and northern railway lines on March 5-9, 2020, he confirmed.

In addition to serving as a reference for train passengers seeking health services, the Rail Clinic will offer health counseling on the dangers of coronavirus and distribute pamphlets and masks among train passengers.

He made assurance of all railway facilities, including cars, being kept clean. The cars will be sterilized routinely using a chemical liquid.

"We also made assurance that the train pillows will always be clean. We will replace them in the event of new passengers," he stated.

PT KAI has also made available hand sanitizers in several places at stations and cars, he noted.

He remarked that 89 health posts were also set up at various stations in Java and Sumatra to offer health services to passengers.
