"The development of Indonesian Muslim products is encouraging. A forum like this international event is needed, so that domestic Muslim fashion and halal products will be recognized globally," the ministry's Director General of Small, Medium and Various Industry, Gati Wibawaningsih, stated here on Wednesday.
The international expo is projected to encourage development of the Muslim product industry in Indonesia, particularly small- and medium-scale enterprises.
"The ii-Motion expo will showcase industrial products related to the halal lifestyle in Indonesia including fashion products, cosmetics, jewelry, accessories, food and beverage, as well as the digital platform that support the halal industry and sharia-based economy," Wibawaningsih stated.
The event is expected to connect local SMEs with potential foreign buyers to expand their export market and increase their product selling.
"We expect buyers to connect with producers and transactions to be clocked during the event or after the ii-Motion," she added.
Wibawaningsih confirmed that the ministry had provided 160 free booths for SMEs keen on participating in the exhibition and having cleared the curation process held until April 19.
SMEs can register to participate in the exhibition by visiting the ministry's website http://bit.ly/iimotionkurasi2020 or ii-Motion social media account.
SMEs that pass the curation process can partake in the exhibition for free.
According to data of The State of Global Islamic Economic Report, world Muslim fashion consumption in 2019 had reached US$270 billion and is projected to increase to $373 billion in 2020. This has demonstrated that the national fashion industry has the potential to compete in the international market.
Wibawaningsih stated that Muslim fashion products had contributed significantly to the national exports of fashion products, recorded at $9.2 billion as of September 2019, contributing 9.8 percent to total exports of the manufacturing industry.
In the domestic market, consumption of Muslim fashion products had reached $20 billion, with an average growth of 18.2 percent. Related news: Industry Minister to promote national fashion in France
