Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Bey Triadi Machmudin, confirmed the news.
"It is true. The President is on a flight to Solo right now," Bey said.
The President's mother, Sujiatmi Notomiharjo, 77, breathed her last at the RST Slamet Riyadi Hospital in Solo.
Condolences poured in on different social media platforms.
Jokowi's Spokesman for Social Affairs Angkie Yudistia expressed deep sorrow at the news.
"I received the information from the Personal Secretary of the President. Detailed confirmation will soon be submitted by the Press Bureau. Please pray, hopefully, she died khusnul khotimah (with blessings ahead)," Angkie said.
